Synnøve Kvile is head of the music department at Stord/Haugesund University College. Together with Ingrid Grønsdal, Kvile is project leader of the developing of a joint master degree in music education, called «Connecting Diversities in Music Education» (CoDime). She is also involved in the IMTE research programme and will develop methods for teaching music teacher students how to improvise in classroom management and investigate how the students use didactial improvisation while teaching upper secondary pupils. Her main research interests are pedagogy and didactic in music education, cultural studies and the relations between informal and formal learning of music. From 2010-2013 she contributed to the national research on “The Cultural Rucksack”. As assistant professor she teaches music pedagogy and didactics, piano, research methods and theories and supervises bachelor thesis’. Kvile has teaching experience from music schools, upper secondary, Music College and University College..
